Kaufman Dolowich is a leading national law firm with more than 250 attorneys across 16 offices and over 25 practice areas. Our Michigan office is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant/Paralegal with at least five years of law firm experience to join our growing team.
This role offers the opportunity to work closely with attorneys on all phases of litigation, from case inception through trial preparation. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced legal environment.
 
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with attorneys to prepare for trials, hearings, arbitrations, depositions, and client meetings.
  • Utilize firm files, records, and legal research resources to gather facts and develop information relating to pending litigation matters.
  • Draft discovery requests and responses, including Requests for Production, Interrogatories, Requests for Admission, and other discovery-related documents.
  • Process, organize, and summarize deposition transcripts.
  • Prepare trial, arbitration, mediation, and hearing binders.
  • Assist with the drafting of motions, pleadings, proposed orders, evidentiary objections, and other litigation-related documents.
  • Support e-filing in state, federal, and appellate courts while ensuring compliance with applicable court rules and procedures.
  • Prepare case timelines, chronologies, summaries, and demonstrative exhibits.
  • Draft routine legal correspondence and client communications.
  • Prepare exhibits for motions, discovery responses, hearings, and trial.
  • Review, redact, organize, and Bates stamp document productions.
  • Prepare preservation of evidence letters, document request letters, and related litigation correspondence.
  • Conduct legal research using LexisNexis and other legal research platforms.
  • Review, summarize, and analyze medical records and other case-related documents in support of the defense of claims.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of attorneys, clients, and firm operations.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of five (5) years of law firm experience as a Legal Assistant, Paralegal, or in a similar litigation support role.
  • Prior litigation experience required.
  • Experience with state and federal court e-filing procedures.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and manage competing deadlines effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to review and interpret legal documents accurately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with legal document management systems and litigation support software is preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, exercise sound judgment, and handle confidential information with discretion.
